11 Rescued From Alaska Mountain After Plane Crash
KETCHIKAN, AK — Authorities rescued 11 people from the side of a mountain after a plane crashed in Alaska on Prince of Wales Island.
According to the Coast Guard, the floatplane crashed 39 miles south southwest of Ketchikan, Alaska, on Tuesday. Crews hoisted all 11 people from the side of the mountain that was approximately 2,000 feet in elevation.
Those rescued were then taken to Ketchikan via helicopter. Minor injuries were reported.
The pilot of the plane called the Coast Guard to report that the plane had crashed on the west side of Mount Jumbo.
According to the Coast Guard, there was a two-mile visibility at the time of the incident, the sky was overcast and the temperature was 58 degrees.
